Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers Abuja Chapter Inaugurates New Executive Committee

The Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers (NIEE) Abuja Chapter has inaugurated the 2025/2026 Executive Members, with Engr. Uche Patrick-Obikile, FNSE, FNIEE, as its new chairman.

The inauguration ceremony, which took place on February 20, 2025, was attended by dignitaries, including the National Chairman of NIEE, Engr. Nureni Adegboyega Ogunyemi, MNSE, FNIEE.

Speaking the National Chaiman of NIEE, Engr Nureni Adegboyega Ogunyemi, extolled expressed confidence that Engr. Uche’s led Executive team will achieve a lot with the support of members. He noted that Environmental engineering innovations are not only about technological advancements but also about framework, interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement.

“The development of smart, sustainable cities, green infrastructure and resilient environmental systems must be driven by strategic alignment of research, practice and governmental policies.

“As professionals in the field, we must continuously seek ways to integrate cutting edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, circular economy principles and eco- friendly industrial practices into our national development agenda”, Ogunyemi advised.

In his welcome remarks, the outgoing chairman, Engr. Idoreyin Udosen, MNSE, FNIEE, highlighted the chapter’s achievements during his tenure, including the registration of over 30 corporate members and the establishment of partnerships with government and private environmental organizations.

Engr. Uche Patrick-Obikile, in her inaugural address, outlined her vision for the chapter, which includes strengthening the institution’s commitment to evidence-based policy making, advancing partnerships with stakeholders, and promoting sustainable development.

She said, “My leadership will focus on climate change initiatives, sustainable urban planning, waste management, and environmental education,” she stated. “We must work together to ensure that environmental engineering remains at the forefront of national development. The challenges we face, from climate change to pollution and biodiversity loss, require urgent and innovative solutions. We must take action now.”

The event also featured a public lecture tgemed “Advancing Environmental Engineering Innovations for National Development,” delivered by Engr. Prof. Toochukwu Chibueze Ogwueleka, FNSE, FNIEE.

The National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Space Engineers (NISE), Engr Kayode Babalola, while recognizing Uche’s invaluable role in propelling the institution to greater heights, highlighted the vast opportunities for collaboration, emphasizing the transformative impact they could achieve together.

He pledged his unwavering support and a strong partnership and extended his best wishes for a successful and fulfilling tenure.

Highlight was the cutting of cake to celebrate the birthday of the National Chairman Engr. Nureni Adegboyega Ogunyemi.
