The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a stern warning to its citizens against participating in foreign armed conflicts, citing rising cases of illegal recruitment. In a press release signed by  the Spokesperson of Ministry Foreign Affairs, Mr Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfe expressed concern over Nigerians being enticed with promises of jobs, security roles, or education, only to be deployed to combat zones.

He noted that victims are often coerced into signing contracts in foreign languages, with their documents confiscated upon arrival. The government is working with international partners to investigate and raise awareness on the dangers of such schemes.

“Nigerians who participate in foreign conflicts outside approved frameworks do so at their own risk,” the ministry warned. Citizens are advised to verify opportunities through official channels and report suspicious activities.

The government reiterates its commitment to protecting Nigerians’ welfare and dignity, both at home and abroad.
