The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS), BEECROFT has handed over five bags of cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Festac Area Command, following a successful intelligence-led operation in Lagos State.
The consignment, weighing approximately 500 kilograms, was formally transferred to NDLEA officials on Friday, 20 February 2026. The illicit substance was intercepted on 18 February 2026 when the NNS BEECROFT Quick Response Team, acting on credible intelligence, stopped a van suspected of conveying illegal drugs around the Abule Osun area of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area in Lagos.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Commander, NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, stated that the successful seizure underscores the Nigerian Navy’s sustained operational efforts under the leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, Admiralty Medal, to combat criminal activities within Nigeria’s maritime domain and adjoining coastal communities.
He commended the vigilance, professionalism, and swift response of the naval personnel involved in the operation, noting that their actions reflect the Navy’s resolve to deny criminal elements freedom of operation. Commodore Adams-Aliu also reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with sister security agencies in order to safeguard the nation’s maritime environment.
The seized narcotics were received by the Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Adejumo Gbenga Ayo, on behalf of the NDLEA for further investigation and necessary legal action.
This development highlights the growing inter-agency synergy between the Nigerian Navy and the NDLEA in dismantling drug trafficking networks and enhancing security across Nigeria’s coastal corridors.
