The Nigeria Immigration Service has commended the Nigerian Shippers Council over what it described as purposeful regulations at the nation’s seaports.
Recall that the council was in 2013 appointed the country’s commercial regulator for the seaport industry, which has brought significant changes in the industry, more than seven years after the ports were concessioned to private terminal operators.
Controller in charge of the Seaport Command of the service, Comptroller Ayodele Arogundade, who made the commendation, spoke when he paid a working visit to the council in Lagos recently.
He noted that the seaports have in the last few years recorded a measure of regulatory development following the emergence of the council as the economic regulator. The Comptroller therefore charged the current management of the council to continue in this path of growth and development in terms of purposeful regulations in the overall interest of the Nigerian nation and its citizens.
Meanwhile, Executive Secretary/CEO of the council, Hassan Bello, who played host to the Comptroller, expressed the appreciation of the management and staffers of the council for finding time to visit the agency.
He also assured that the council will leave no stone unturned in its efforts to ensure that the country’s seaports are efficient and competitive through effective regulations.
