Nigeria congratulates Senegal on her Independence Anniversary

Nigeria has congratulated Senegal on its 65 years of Independence which was on 4th April 1960, marking another year of sovereignty and progress. The Nigerian government, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, extends warm congratulations to Senegal’s Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Yassine Fall.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations
The longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Senegal is rooted in shared history, cultural ties, and mutual cooperation. Both countries gained independence in 1960 and have maintained a joint commitment to democratic governance and regional security.


Nigeria and Senegal aim to deepen collaboration in areas such as

  • Trade: Senegal accounts for 68.7% of Nigeria’s exports within the ECOWAS market, showcasing a mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
  • Security: Both countries are committed to combating terrorism and building strong regional institutions.
  • Education: Nigeria and Senegal seek to enhance educational cooperation, promoting regional integration under ECOWAS and the African Union.
  • Regional Integration: The two nations aim to strengthen their partnership, fostering stronger ties within the West African subregion and across the African continent.

A press release signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson of
Ministry stated: “As Senegal marks another year of sovereignty and progress, Nigeria celebrates with you and commends the enduring spirit of resilience, unity, and democratic values that define the Senegalese people. The longstanding bilateral relations between our two nations, rooted in shared history, cultural ties, and mutual cooperation, continue to strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity within the West African subregion and across the African continent.

“Nigeria remains committed to deepening collaboration with Senegal in areas of mutual interest, including trade, security, education, and regional integration under the auspices of ECOWAS and the African Union. We applaud Senegal’s contributions to peace, security and development in Africa and look forward to even greater achievements in the years ahead.

“Therefore, on this special day, we reaffirm Nigeria’s unwavering solidarity and commitment to fostering stronger ties with Senegal for the collective prosperity of our people.
