Nigeria Congratulates Namibia on Electing First Female President

Nigeria has congratulated Namibia on the historic election of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the country’s first female president. Nandi-Ndaitwah, the current Vice President, won the election with 57% of the vote, extending the ruling SWAPO party’s reign in power since independence.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Acting Spokesperson to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.

Her win extends the dominance of the ruling SWAPO party, which has been in power since the country’s independence.

The Nigerian government praised the people of Namibia for voting for stability and expressed its commitment to strengthening the historic relationship between the two countries during Nandi-Ndaitwah’s tenure.

Nandi-Ndaitwah’s victory which has been widely welcomed, marks a significant milestone for gender representation in leadership, especially in Africa.
