NIDCOM Rescues 956 Nigerians from Libya, Warns Against Irregular Migration
Abuja, March 24, 2025 – In a significant humanitarian effort, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has successfully evacuated 956 Nigerians from Libya in the first quarter of 2025. This rescue mission was made possible through a collaborative effort with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Nigeria and the National Commission For Refugees Migrants And Internally Displaced Persons Offices (NCRMI).
The breakdown of the evacuees shows that 683 were females, 132 males, 87 children, and 54 infants. They were brought back home in six tranches between January and March 2025.
Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of NIDCOM, reiterated the Commission’s warning to Nigerians to avoid using Libya as a migration route to Europe, citing the country’s unstable political climate and ongoing struggles.
