NCC Reaffirms Commitment to Digital Growth at Enugu Tech Festival

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Aminu Maida, has reaffirmed the Commission’s unwavering commitment to accelerating Nigeria’s digital transformation.

Speaking at the recently concluded Enugu Tech Festival, Maida described the event as a significant platform showcasing innovation, creativity, and the rapid progress of Nigeria’s technology ecosystem. He noted that the vibrant atmosphere and array of emerging solutions on display reflect the country’s steady march toward a digitally-driven economy.

According to him, Nigeria possesses immense potential to leapfrog into global competitiveness through a robust and evolving regulatory framework that encourages innovation while safeguarding consumer interests. He emphasized that the nation’s telecommunications growth is the outcome of deliberate reforms, forward-looking policies, and structural frameworks designed to foster competition, attract investment, and protect consumers.

Maida commended the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, for articulating a clear and strategic roadmap for digital acceleration in the state. He described the governor’s initiatives as commendable and aligned with the broader national digitalisation agenda.

The NCC boss further disclosed that the Commission, in collaboration with stakeholders, is reviewing the National Telecommunications Policy 2000 to develop a more modern, inclusive, and consumer-centric framework. He explained that the updated policy would address emerging technologies and innovation trends, ensuring the sector remains dynamic and future-ready.
Maida also applauded President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, implemented through the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani. He noted that the administration’s support has contributed to Nigeria surpassing 179 million active mobile lines, underscoring the impact of visionary leadership and sustained sectoral reforms.

He assured stakeholders that the Commission would continue to create an enabling environment for investment, innovation, and inclusive digital growth across the country.
