NCAA Trains Journalists on Aviation Safety and Security Through Effective Regulation

In a bid to keep journalists abreast with the latest trend in the Aviation regulation, safety and security, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), organised a training for the Aviation Correspondents based in Abuja with no the theme: Driving Aviation Safety and Security Through Effective Regulation: The Role of The Media”.
The two day workshop which came up on the 16th & 17th of August 2024 had ten modules namely: Introduction to NCAA Functions and Directorates, Understanding the Broad Range of NCCA’s Regulatory Powers and Authority, Understanding the NCAA Project 2024: The Vision Board of DGCA, The Role of Media Partners, Leadership in the Public Sector Sphere, Understanding Safety and Security, Passengers/ Airlines Rights and Obligations, Complaints Resolution.
Others are, Economic Regulations: Driving Ease of Doing Business in Aviation and Attracting Business, Understanding the Unmanned Aerial Regulation and Journalistic Ethics and Standards: Sensitive Information Handling and Privacy Issues
CEO and Managing Director of Tom Associates, Mr. Temitope Jegede who led the training organisation introduced interactions and fun to ensure impactful learning focused on the critical role the media plays in promoting aviation safety and ensuring public confidence in the industry,
In his presentation One of the resource persons Dr. Azeez, who handled took the stage on the first day explaining topics, such as; An overview of the NCAA; The regulatory powers and autonomy it wields, and the importance of effective media partnerships; as well as Understanding NCAA’s Regulatory Framework, highlighted the need for journalists to have a sound understanding of these regulations to report accurately and effectively.
He urged media professionals to prioritize facts over drama, ensuring that the public receives information that is both accurate and reassuring.
“In the age of social media, where misinformation can spread rapidly, the media must serve as a reliable source of truth, particularly in times of crisis.
“Journalists must understand the intricacies of our regulatory framework, and this knowledge not only aids in accurate reporting but also helps the public comprehend the importance of adhering to these regulations for their safety.”
Dr. Azeez encouraged journalists to foster collaborative relationships with regulatory bodies, stressing that such partnerships are crucial in promoting a culture of safety within the aviation industry.
Highlight of the event was the recap fun quiz where participants were divided into three groups to answer aviation/ media related questions.
