NAWOJ FCT Celebrates Nigeria @ 60 and Calls for proactive measures to curb post Covid-19 effects on Citizens

As Nigeria clocks 60 years of Independence, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT Chapter has called for more concerted efforts by leaders at all levels towards reducing the negative impact of Covid -19 among women and children in the country.

This is contained in a statement co-signed by the Chairperson, NAWOJ FCT, Comrade Stella Okoh-Esene and the Secretary, Comrade Amaka Solomon in Abuja.

The Statement noted that social vices,poverty hunger,as well as Violence Against Women and Children are increasing on daily basis, stressing the need for a strong legal framework and mechanism to curb the menace.

According to the statement, Covid-19 pandemic has destroyed social economy of most countries and there is need for governnent to put effective measures on ground to alleviate the plights of post Covid-19 effects on citizens, especially women and children who are always at the receiving end (vulnerable groups) of such acts.
On the recent hike of increase in fuel and electricity bill, “we appeal on FG to revert to old price to ease the suffering of common man in the country.

Comrade Stella Okoh- Esene expressed optimism that Nigeria will overcome the past and current challenges being faced and enjoined Nigerians to always pray and support the government in their efforts for peaceful Coexistence.
