According to Kehinde Ajayi, Director of Information and PR at the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba, Delta State, has become a “vision of hope for the nation’s sports.”
As the games enter their third day, a total of 42 medals have been won, with 14 gold, 14 silver, and 14 bronze medals awarded in various sports like Karate, Wrestling, Judo, Cycling, and more. The host state, Delta, is currently leading the medal table.
Ajayi emphasized that the NYG is not just about entertainment but also about contributing to the economic development of the nation through sports and discovering young talents to replace ageing ones.
“The Ministry, under the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Sports, Sen. John Owan Enoh, is committed to making sports a vital part of the nation’s development,” Ajayi said.
With 35 states and the FCT participating, except for Rivers State, the games have brought together talented young athletes from across the country. The event runs until September 19, and Ajayi encourages everyone to follow the exciting developments.
