MINISTER OF WOMEN AFFIARS DECORATED AS GOBAL AMBASSADOR FOR WOMEN IN ENERGY

The Minister of Women Affiars, Dame Pauline Tallen OFR KSG has added another feather to her colourful cap as Women Gobal Ambassador on Energy, Oil and Gas. The appointment was announced on Thursday, 25th March, 2021 when the Association of Women in Energy, Oil and Gas paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Abuja.
In a remark, accepting the title, the Minister said that it is high time for Nigerian women to make their presences in the energy, oil and gas sector of the country’s economy felt.
Dame Pauline Tallen said that men have dominated the oil sector for long. ‘There is the need for our women professionals to make a foray into this very critical area of our economy’, she said.
In a country where half of the population are women, there is no justification whereby only 15 percentage of the workforce in the oil industry are women.
The Minister pledged the support of the Ministry of Women Affiars for any initiative that will further the interest of women in the energy, oil and gas sector or in any other sector of our national development.
She said that the 21st century is a century to reposition the role of women in all ramifications. The energy, oil and gas sector inclusive, the minister said.
Dame Pauline Tallen thanked the leadership of the association of Women in Energy, Oil and Gas for championing the campaign for the inclusion of women in the energy, oil and gas sector.
She noted with gratitude the giant strikes recorded by the association in the area of girl child education, save drinking water and clean environment in the oil industry host community.
She said the plight of women, girls and children in the oil producing areas must be taken care of.
We must develop programmes that will enable women from host oil producing areas to participate in the industry, the minister emphasized.
She charged the association to identify areas of collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affiars, in this regard.
Dame Pauline Tallen thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Mrs Lami Ahmed on the broad of the NNPC and called for more of such appointments.
She also thanked Mr President for appointing a woman as the Chairman of the Federal Character Commission.
Earlier the leader of the association of Women in Energy, Oil and Gas, said that the have come to solicit for the collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affiars in the role of women in the energy sector.

Other areas of collaboration include, programs for women in the oil host community.
The association, there after, appointed the Minister, Gobal Ambassador for Women in Energy, Oil and Gas for her outstanding contributions to the cause of women and children in Nigeria.
