Former Chief Press Secretary to ex-Deputy Governor Mannir Yakubu, Ibrahim Musa Kallah, has passionately advocated for a special salary scale for Nigerian journalists.
During an interaction session in Katsina, Kallah highlighted journalism as the most neglected sector in Nigeria, urging both government and private sector to take immediate steps to improve journalists’ salaries.
“Journalists in Nigeria can’t even afford a bag of rice with their current salaries,” Kallah lamented.
He emphasized the crucial role journalists play in society, describing them as among the finest globally and praising their contributions to restoring democratic governance.
Kallah called on federal and state governments to address the welfare of journalists, ensuring their well-being and recognizing their vital contributions to the nation’s democracy.
