Mahmood Urges Newly Appointed RECs to be Diligent

Ahead of the 2023, general election, The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu on Thursday sworn in 19 newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs). urging them to be diligent.
Yakubu disclosed that 14 of the RECs were fresh appointments while five were re-appointed for a second and final term.
The renewed nominees confirmed include Ibrahim Abdullahi (Adamawa); Obo Effanga (Cross River); Umar Ibrahim (Taraba); Agboke Olaleke (Ogun); and Professor Samuel Egwu (Kogi).
Those confirmed for fresh appointment Onyeka Ugochi (Imo); Muhammad Bashir (Sokoto); Ayobami Salami, a professor, (Oyo); Zango Abdu (Katsina); Queen Agwu (Ebonyi); and Agundu Tersoo (Benue); Yomere Oritsemlebi (Delta); Yahaya Ibrahim, a professor, (Kaduna); Nura Ali (Kano); Agu Uchenna (Enugu); Ahmed Garki (FCT); Hudu Yunusa (Bauchi); Uzochukwu Chijioke, a professor, (Anambra); and Mohammed Nura (Yobe
The 19 RECs were immediately deployed to various states of their primary assignment but outside their states of origin, in line with INEC’s regulation that forbids a commissioner from serving in his or her home state.
Mahmud urged the newly sworn in Resident Electoral Commissioners to be devoted, loyal to Nigerians and not to compromise the integrity of the commission.
Speaking on behalf of the RECs, Obo Effanga, assured that they would be bounded by the oath of allegiance to Nigeria and also discharge their responsibilities in accordance to the guidelines and other provisions of their appointment to deepen the integrity of the electoral system in the country.
