FOOTBALL: Liverpool Breaks Bank For Uruguayan Striker
Emmanuel Alfred
Premier powerhouse, Liverpool have completed the signing of Uruguayan goal machine, Darwin Nunez from Portuguese side, Benfica for a club record fee of eighty five million pounds (£85m).
The twenty three year old scored 34 goals for Benfica in all competitions last season, including goals in both legs of the club’s Champions League quarter-final defeat to Liverpool in April.
The lethal goalscorer couldnt hide his delight in joining Liverpool and says winning titles inspired his decision to join a club that ‘suits my style of play’.
He will be wearing jersey number twenty seven(27), a jersey previously worn by the departed Belgium forward, Divock Origi who departed after eight years at the club.
It is a statement of intent from the Reds who seems to have a very good replacement for the soon departing Senegalese forward, Sadio Mane.
