Labour Ministry hosts NURTW, as Union pledges cooperation

Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has said that the ministry will do everything possible to maintain a conflict-ridden National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Onyejeocha stated this when she received in audience, leaders of the NURTW led by its Acting President Issa Ore at the Ministry in Abuja on Tuesday.
She also said that the federal government is determined to ensure overall peace and progress in the country.
The minister who expressed the determination of the government to resolve the conflict within the ranks of the NURTW, told the transport workers that the President Tinubu’s administration is desirous of maintaining peace and harmony in every sector in the country.
“I assure you that if there are anything that is left undone as we speak that with your kind cooperation that it will be done there is nothing that cannot be resolved. The truth of the matter is that we are all one in this country, the Christian, Muslim all worship one God.
“Last year it was all gloomy faces but today I can see cheerful faces and everybody seems to be happy. That’s a good thing to happen in the new year and I wish all a happy and prosperous 2024 and that there will be no crisis in NURTW anymore”, she said
She also urged them to work in harmony when the acting positions in the union will be filled.
“The president has said that he wants peace for the country. He also said that he is the driver while we the ministers and appointees of this government are the conductors for the whole Nigeria irrespective of ethnicity, religion or any belief. So I am the conductor and my duty is to make sure that everybody is in the right place,” she said.
The minister assured the union leaders that the government will assiduously work with them to ensure industrial peace and harmony in the country, adding that the ministry expects them to cooperate with it’s vision and mandate.
Speaking earlier, Comrade Ore said they were at the ministry to thank the ministry for its efforts in ensuring justice, fairness and impartiality in the handling of the affairs of the Union, “despite all effort by detractors to intimidate and ridicule your efforts”.
