JOHESU SUSPENDS 84-DAY STRIKE

The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has suspended its 84-day nationwide strike with immediate effect.
A press release signed by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Annah Daniel
stated that the decision followed a conciliatory meeting between JOHESU and representatives of Federal Government, chaired by the Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi.
According to the statement, a communique issued at the end of the meeting, held on February 6, 2026, the Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to resolving outstanding issues that led to the strike, including: Review of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs); CONHESS adjustment and budgetary provisions; Immediate resolution of CONHESS issues and the withdrawal of “no work, no pay” directive.
It was agreed that no workers who participated in the strike will be victimised.
Following the assurance, the leadership of JOHESU agreed to suspend the on-going industrial action to allow implementation of commitments reached by the Federal Government.
Present at the counciliation meeting frok government side were Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Economy, Mr Wale Edun; and Minister of State for Health Dr. Isiaq Salako.
On the labour side, those present included TUC President, Osifo and Secretary General, Nuhu Toro; JOHESU President Kabir Minjibir. Others are acting president of NLC, Adewale Adeyanju and NLC Acting General Secretary, Benson Upah .
