Also strengthening INEC’s autonomy, capacity, and ethical standards to ensure free and fair elections.

On Media Role, IPC called for promoting ethical journalism, counter disinformation, and ensure fair media access for all candidates. In addition, the group seeks fir protection of Journalist by implementing legal measures to ensure the safety of accredited journalists and election observers during election day.

IPC is advocating for establishment of an independent Electoral Offences Commission to investigate and prosecute electoral malpractices  while calling for guaranteed equitable participation and representation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in political processes.

Proposed amendments to Electoral Acts by the IPC include:
– Allowing Nigerians abroad to participate in national elections and enable early voting to improve accessibility.
– Enhancing transparency and accountability in the collation, transmission, and announcement of results.
– Ensure penalties for violating campaign blackout periods apply only to offending media organizations.

IPC hopes that by adopting these reforms, Nigeria can strengthen its democratic institutions, promote electoral integrity, and ensure inclusive participation of citizens in the electoral process.
