The Special Adviser to Imo State Governor on Diaspora Affairs in Nigeria, Honourable Celia Osakwe-Hibbert, has called on the Federal Government of Nigera to carry out massive harvest and use of talents in Nigeria to curb the increasing migration of Nigeriàns to abroad.
Speaking in an interview with AIT correspondent, Hon Hibbert recognised the contributions migrants are making across the globe, stating herself as an example. However she pleaded with young people to shun an unplanned journey to the Diaspora. “Government must also play a role to reduce the appetite for youth migration, as there are growing concerns of young men and women being stranded or even found dead in pursuit of so called greener pastures abroad”, she added
On the State level, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, the Governor of Imo State explores strategies such as ‘wealth creation’ in order to provide avenues for meaningful engagement of Imo Youths in order to curb irregular migration; as United Nations on the global level pledge to recommit themselves to the principle of cross-border and regional cooperation enshrined in the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration to build prosperous, healthy and resilient communities.
Imo SA Diaspora commended Rt. Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa for efforts at the national level to improve situations for Nigerians in Diaspora. She also acknowledged agencies like Rarduja International, I.O.M, NAPTIP, and several others who are at the forefront of battling irregular migration.
