In preparation for the upcoming Edo State Governorship Election on September 21, 2024, the Electoral Institute (TEI) has commenced a 3-day training program for Presiding Officers (POs) and Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs). The training, which started on Friday, September 13, 2024, aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to conduct polling and counting procedures effectively.
The training focuses on critical aspects of the electoral process, including polling date and time, code of conduct, electoral materials, sorting, counting, and announcement of results. Participants will also receive hands-on training on the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and learn how to upload results to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (iREV).
The training is structured to familiarize participants with the INEC E-School and TRAINING Bot, e-training platforms that contain the complete E-Manual. The second day of training will focus on using the hardcopy of the Manual for Election Officials 2023, while the third day will feature hands-on practicals on BVAS and simulation exercises.
The Chairman of the Electoral Institute, Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, and the Director General, Dr. Sa’ad Umar Idris, urged participants to be above board and ensure free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections. The training is ongoing across the 18 Local Government Areas in Edo State, with participants drawn from Corp Members, ex-Corp Members, and final year students of federal tertiary institutions.
This comprehensive training program demonstrates INEC’s commitment to ensuring the success of the Edo State Governorship Election and maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
