INEC Records s High Turnout in First Seven Hours of Voter Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has reported a strong response to the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which commenced on Monday, August 18, 2025. Within the first seven hours of online pre-registration, 69,376 Nigerians successfully registered, with 33,803 (48.7%) males and 35,573 (51.3%) females.
Further analysis reveals that a significant proportion of registrants, 48,033 (69.2%), are young persons aged 18-34.
The online registration portal is available for 24 hours and can be accessed at (https://cvr.inecnigeria.org)
Physical registration will begin on August 25, 2025, at 811 State and Local Government offices nationwide, operating from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
INEC says the Commission will provide weekly updates on the CVR, including detailed breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability, starting next week.
Guidelines for Registration:
– Nigerian citizens aged 18 and above who are not registered voters can participate in the CVR exercise.
– Double or multiple registrations are strictly prohibited and may attract penalties.
– Inter-State/FCT and intra-State/FCT transfer of voters, as well as replacement of lost or damaged voter cards, are permitted during the CVR.
