INEC, IPAC Pledge Credible Elections in 2025 and Beyond

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), have reaffirmed their commitment to conducting credible elections in Nigeria. At the first quarterly consultative meeting of INEC with leaders of political parties, IPAC National Chairman Yusuf Mamman Dantalle emphasized the need for free, fair, and transparent elections.¹
Dantalle urged INEC to commence preparations for the 2027 general elections immediately, while also ensuring the success of the Anambra State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 8, 2025. He also called on stakeholders to support INEC in discharging its duties and to expedite action on the Constitution and Electoral Act Amendments.
Meanwhile, INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu announced that the Commission conducted 51 re-run elections, bye-elections, and off-cycle elections in 2024. He also revealed plans for the 2026 Area Council election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), scheduled for February 21, 2026.
