INEC BOSS VISITS FCT CENTRE AS TRAINING OF SPOS NATION WIDE BEGINS

As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), commenced nationwide training for the Supervisory Presiding Officers, (SPOs) that will participate in the general election, the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu on Saturday, paid a visit to the Abuja Training Centre located in Government Secondary School Garki, Area 10, with the National Commissioners.

He said the training which is taking place simultaneously nationwide, is to equip the SPOs with the requisite knowledge to conduct free, fair and credible polls.

Professor Mahmood Yakubu noted that the SPOs are the people that would supervise the presiding officers that would conduct the election at the polling unit level. He added that they would swear to an oath of Neutrality and Allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He told the trainees that an Identity Cards would be given to them and they would be conveyed to their various locations in vehicles that are marked for election duty.

He disclosed that the training for the presiding officers would commence on the 14th of this month simultaneously nationwide.

In an interview with Journalists, the Director Electoral Institute, Dr Saad Idris said the first phase of the training would be theoretical while the second day would be the technical aspect where the SPOs would be trained using BVAS.

Dr Idris said that the commission would also train collation officers.
