How D’Tigers were eliminated from the 2025 Men’s AfroBasket Championship

Nigeria’s D’Tigers were eliminated from the 2025 Men’s AfroBasket Championship after a 91-75 loss to Senegal in the quarterfinals. The game was held at the Pavilhão Multiusos Arena in Luanda, Angola, on August 19, 2025.

From a tight first quarter, D’Tigers started strong, edging the first quarter 24-23 against Senegal.
However Senegal took control and started dominating in the second quarter, outshooting Nigeria 30-18 and establishing an 11-point halftime lead (53-42). Jean-Jacques Boissy led Senegal with 17 points at halftime, while Ike Nwamu scored 14 points for Nigeria.

Senegal extended their lead in the third quarter, limiting Nigeria to 13 points and stretching the gap to 21 points (76-55) heading into the final quarter.

Key performer in the are Jean-Jacques Boissy of Senegal who scored a game-high 32 points, including 19 points in the crucial second and third quarters,
while Ike Nwamu of Nigeria led Nigeria’s scoring with 15 points. Brancou Badio contributed significantly to Senegal’s victory.

D’Tigers will regroup in November to start their qualifiers for the Qatar 2027 FIBA World Cup, where they will be grouped with Rwanda, Guinea, and Tunisia.
