How Bangladesh Air Force Jet Crashed into School in Dhaka.A devastating incident occurred on Monday, July 21, 2025, when a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft, a Chinese-made F-7 BGI jet, crashed into the Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara neighborhood. The crash resulted in the deaths of at least 20 people, including the pilot, Flight Lieutenant Mohammed Toukir Islam, and 16 students. Over 170 others were injured, many with serious burn wounds.

The aircraft which took off at 1:06 pm local time, crashed into the school campus shortly after. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with debris and flames engulfing the building.

A committee has been constituted by the Bangladesh Government to investigate the cause of the crash, which occurred in a densely populated residential area. The investigation will aim to determine the factors that led to the tragic incident.

Interim Prime Minister Muhammad Yunus expressed “deep grief and sorrow” over the incident and promised a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash. A one-day state mourning was declared for Tuesday, with the flag to be flown at half-mast on all government and private establishments.

Rescue Efforts were made by emergency responders, including firefighters and ambulances which rushed to the scene to rescue those trapped in the building. An Air Force helicopter was deployed to airlift the severely injured to nearby hospitals.

There was swift medical response
as hospitals in Dhaka, including Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, are treating the injured. Many students are being treated for serious burns and other injuries.

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the nation, with many around the world expressing condolences and support for the families of the victims.

Reaction from the Government 

The Bangladesh’s interim government leader Muhammad Yunus stated on Monday that, “I have no words. I don’t know how to begin.” “None of us ever imagined it. It wasn’t within anyone’s expectations. But we had to suddenly accept this unbelievable reality,” Yunus said in a video message. “What answer can we give to their parents? What can we possibly say to them? We can’t even answer ourselves.”
