High Commissioner of Bangladesh Visits NIPOST,seeks collaboration

The High commissioner of the people’s Republic of Bangladesh to Nigeria, Mr. Shameen Ashan on Monday, February 10, 2020 paid a visit to the Post Master General Dr. Ismail Adebayo Adewusi at the NIPOST Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting was held at the NIPOST boardroom, after a brief reception at the PMG’s office, and had in attendance directors of the NIPOST and other officials where discussions were held on the need to foster bilateral relationship between both countries especially in the area of producing a commemorative stamp in honour of the Bangladesh founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Majibur Rahman which will commence on 17th March, which will mark his 100th Birthday with several events lined up through out the year.
His Excellency, Md Shameen Ahsan noted that Bangladesh and Nigeria have similarities in population, love for sports especially football and love for rice, adding that the country’s economy “grew by 7.86% in 2019 and increased to 8.15% this year, which has made it one of the highest growing economies in the world. He noted that the achievements were under the visionary leadership of the Honourable Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, who recently won a third consecutive term in office due to her developmental policies and exceptional popularity.
He said that Bangladesh is a role model to the world in women empowerment and rural development, adding that the country is ahead of other countries in South Asia in having access to portable water, sanitation, poverty reduction, drastic reduction in mortality rates and many more. He announced that Bangladesh is 100% malaria and polio free which is a remarkable achievement in history.
The High commissioner, who has spent over one and a half year in office appreciated the Nigerian government for their support to him within these period and assured the NIPOST management of his willingness to further extend the relationship he has been enjoying by exploring all forms of cooperation required to smoothen the bilateral relationship.
Responding, the Post Master General, Dr.Ismail Adebayo Adewusi thanked the High Commissioner for his visit to the NIPOST with the intention of exploring areas of mutual cooperation between the agency and Bangladesh High Commission.
He said that the NIPOST is willing and ready to partner with the High commission in achieving the objective of producing the commemorative stamp for the founding father of Bangladesh, because by doing so the agency is projecting the name and image of Nigeria on a positive light to Bangladesh as a country and the world at large.
“I am pleased to work with the Bangladesh High Commission in achieving the assignment and also increasing the bilateral relationship between both countries”, the PMG concluded.
