GoG SECURITY SEMINAR IN CHINA: Vice Admiral Ogalla Highlights Nigeria’s Maritime Security Efforts

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, recently attended the 2nd Gulf of Guinea Security Situation Seminar in Shanghai, China. The seminar, which took place from December 3-6, 2024, brought together Chiefs of Maritime Forces and the Inter-regional Coordination Center in the Gulf of Guinea to discuss maritime security.
During the seminar, Vice Admiral Ogalla highlighted the improved maritime security situation in the Gulf of Guinea, thanks to Nigeria’s efforts in fostering collaboration in the region. He noted that the Nigerian Navy has been working closely with international partners, including the European Union, to address transnational crimes and support regional maritime security initiatives.
The CNS also acknowledged the significant contributions of the Chinese Navy to regional maritime security, including their participation in the International Maritime Conference and Regional Maritime Exercise (INCREMEX) held in May 2024. He further highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Nigeria and China, citing examples of ship acquisition, training, and technical assistance.
Vice Admiral Ogalla emphasized the importance of global cooperation in combating maritime crimes, which are often transnational in nature. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to broadening partnerships at international levels to improve global maritime security.
The seminar provided a valuable platform for regional navies to share experiences, best practices, and lessons learned in addressing maritime security challenges. As the Nigerian Navy continues to play a leading role in regional maritime security, its participation in such seminars underscores its commitment to collaboration and cooperation in promoting a safer and more secure maritime environment.
