FOUR INMATES KILLED IN FOILED OSUN JAILBREAK

An attempted jail break at Kosere Correctional Centre, Ile Ife, Osun State in Nigeria, was foiled on Tuesday January 4.
Four inmates were killed in the attempted jailbreak carried out by some of the inmates during the morning sanitation.
The inmates tried to access the main exit from the prison during sanitation/devotional sessions in the morning, but were repelled by security operatives.
A media source stated that,
“While the inmates were conducting devotional service after a sanitation exercise, few of them began to move closer to the exit gate.
“They were warned by the security operatives but one of them ran towards the gate and was shot by the operatives. Three others also attempted to escape but were brought down by bullets from security operatives.
“The situation is presently under control and normalcy has returned to the facility”
Osun State Comptroller of Corrections, Lanre Amoran has reportedly visited the facility for an on-the-spot assessment.
Police Public Relations Officer of Osun command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident but said she is yet to obtain the details.
Opalola said;
“Attempted jailbreak in Ife? It happened but the detais are not available yet. I will get back as soon as I get further briefings.”
