FOOTBALL: Super Falcons Win Record-Extending 10th WAFCON Title

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have made history by winning their record-extending 10th CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title. The team staged a dramatic comeback, defeating Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses 3-2 in the final held at the Stade Olympique in Rabat.

The Atlas Lionesses of Morocco took an early lead with goals from Ghizlane Chebbak in the 12th minute and Sanaa Mssoudy in the 24th minute.

However, during the second half the Super Falcons foughtback with Esther Okoronkwo scoring a penalty in the 64th minute after a VAR review, reducing the deficit to 2-1.

An equalizer was scored by Chinaza Ijamilusi sho leveled the score in the 71st minute, and Jennifer Echegini sealed the comeback with a decisive goal in the 88th minute which held until full time.

This victory extends Nigeria’s record as Africa’s most successful women’s football team, solidifying their dominance in the continent. The Super Falcons’ perfect record in WAFCON finals remains intact, having won all 10 titles they’ve contested.
