The Flamingos boosted their chances of qualifying for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with an impressive 1-0 win over their Ethiopian counterparts at the Abebe Bikila Stadium, Addis Ababa on Friday night.
A 36 minute goal by Opeyemi Ajakaye was the difference in the keenly contested encounter.
The result also saw the Flamingos maintaining their impressive defensive record in the qualifying series with the Bankole Olowookere’s tutored side have scoring 15 goals without conceding in five outings.
Previously, the Flamingos had produced dominant displays against Democratic Republic of Congo and Egypt with 8-0 and 6-0 aggregate wins over them respectively.
The reverse fixture of the qualifiers will take place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on June 4 with a win or draw enough for the Flamingos to seal their passage to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India in October, 2022.
