FOOTBALL: Falcons stuns France in the Under – 20 world cup

Nigeria’s Falconets defeated France at the ongoing FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Costa Rica by a lone goal in the early hours of Friday.

Flourish Sabastine was the heroine of the game after she latched unto Mercy Idoko’s pass in the 85th minute to get the only goal late in the second half.

The match, which saw opportunities come in patches was interrupted by heavy rainfall and the Centre Referee halting the match to save both teams from the bad weather.

Next up for the Falconets is a second Group D clash with South Korea on Sunday.

The team has qualified for every edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and have been runners-up twice, losing to Germany on both occasions in 2010 and 2014.
