FOOTBALL: Chelsea get comfortable win over Fulham
Emmanuel Alfred
Two first half goals by Mykhailo Mudryk and Armando Broja gave Chelsea a win over Fulham and the only second win of the season .
Mudryk scored his first goal for Chelsea since his £89m move from Shakhtar Donetsk after he expertly controlled Levi Colwill’s Cross with his chest to score against Bernd Leno.
Chelsea dominated the early exchanges and pressed really high up the pitch and were rewarded when Fulham defender, Tim Ream’s pass was intercepted by Cole Palmer who then laid it to Broja and Ream stretched his leg to stop only for the ball to rebound into the net from Broja.
This was the 22-year-old Albanian’s first goal since 2022. It was a good welcome for him after he’s been out since December with a cruciate ligament challenge.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side just recorded only their second win of the season and he made changes around the pitch because 12 of his players are on the sick bed due to injuries and it resulted in saw Raheem Sterling starting from the bench.
Ian Maatsen replaced Mudryk at half-time and hit the Fulham post as Chelsea looked for a third in the second half.
The home side’s best chances came when Raul Jimenez headed the ball from a corner which went well wide of Sanchez’s post.
Chelsea then held on for a comfortable 2-0 victory.
