The Federal Government has renewed its call for stronger inter-agency collaboration as part of efforts to confront Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
This position was reiterated by the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd), during a high-level meeting with intelligence and security stakeholders held at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja on Thursday.
The Minister stressed the urgent need for a coordinated and integrated approach to intelligence gathering and operations, particularly in addressing the complexities of asymmetric warfare.
He commended the dedication and resilience of security personnel, noting that despite the daunting nature of modern security threats, officers continue to demonstrate commitment and courage, often without adequate recognition.
Describing the current security situation as a shared national responsibility, Gen. Musa emphasized that Nigeria’s response must be equally collective. He observed that while security agencies have recorded notable successes, a lack of synergy has, at times, limited overall effectiveness.
“We have been operating in silos for too long. It is time to come together, harness our collective intelligence, and work as a unified team to support our troops and safeguard the nation,” he said.
The Defence Minister also reaffirmed the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for enhanced joint action across all security institutions. He noted that every agency and parastatal has a critical role to play in safeguarding national security.
Gen. Musa highlighted the need to integrate both human and technical intelligence to generate actionable outcomes that would enable swift and effective responses by troops in the field.
He further called for increased public participation, urging Nigerians to support security agencies with timely and credible information.
“Asymmetric warfare requires intelligence-driven operations. The enemy is often hidden, making it imperative for us to strengthen our intelligence architecture and remain vigilant at all times,” he added.
The meeting, described as the first of its kind at the Ministry of Defence, is expected to lay the foundation for a more coordinated intelligence framework aimed at boosting operational efficiency and enhancing national security across the country.
