He also thanked the President for the prompt release of the N10 billion promised for the airport project.

“On behalf of the South east governors Forum, I want to thank all of you, especially our President who graciously released the fund he promised, and even earlier than we expected. So we commend our President for his interest in the southeast.

“The same speed here, we have greater speed in the second Niger bridge. It shows interest of Mr. President in the South east. So, we are grateful to all of you and we want to encourage the contractor, if possible, some aspect of the work that are not key like drainage work could be done at night”, he said.

Fielding questions, Governor Umahi explained that renovation work will soon start on the terminal buildings of both the local and International wings of the airport as it was captured in the 2020 budget.

“There is budget for that and when we went to see Mr President he assured that in the 2020 budget, funds would be allocated to that”, he noted. “We have checked and fund was allocated. So, when the fund for capital projects are released, I am sure work will get started”.
