Engineering a Better Nigeria: NSE President Rabiu Sets  5-Pillar Plan

Ali Alimasuya Rabiu the newly  inaugurated and 35th President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), has with a clear vision to “reset” the organization and position it as a key player in Nigeria’s national development agenda. In his inaugural address on Saturday, 17th January, 2026, Rabiu emphasized the need for the NSE to move beyond symbolism and focus on measurable impact, accountability, and strategic engagement with government, industry, and society.

The NSE President outlined five strategic pillars for his tenure, including:
– Institutional Renewal & Governance Reform: Strengthening internal governance, enforcing ethical standards, and rebuilding trust among members and stakeholders.
– Professional Standards, Regulation & Capacity Development: Enhancing engineering standards, enforcing laws and regulations, and promoting continuous professional development.
– National Development & Policy Advocacy: Aligning the NSE with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope / Nigeria First Policy, advocating for local content, and promoting indigenous expertise.
– Community Impact & Youth Engagement: Expanding STEM and STEAM education, strengthening youth programs, and promoting ethical leadership and societal responsibility.
– Institutional Branding, Global Visibility & Partnerships: Rebranding the NSE as a global-facing institution, promoting international collaborations, and positioning Nigerian engineers as trusted partners.

Rabiu’s leadership is seen as a significant shift towards active national influence, reinforcing engineering as a pillar of governance, infrastructure, and economic growth in the years to come.
