EMPATHY: NAF Launches Medical Outreach to Aid Maiduguri Flood Victims

In the aftermath of the devastating floods that ravaged parts of Borno State, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), has swung into action, launching a sustained medical outreach to assist affected residents of Maiduguri. The initiative, which began on September 11, 2024, was directed by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, and is being carried out by NAF units in Maiduguri.
The outreach, which is taking place at a primary school near the NAF Base in Maiduguri, aims to address the urgent needs of survivors by providing essential medical care, food, water, and relief materials. Beneficiaries are receiving free medical consultations, medications, and insecticide-treated mosquito nets, while families in need are receiving food and water supplies.
One notable case is a woman who gave birth the previous night and is receiving specialized care from the medical team. The NAF’s intervention is part of a coordinated response involving the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
The outreach will be sustained for as long as the situation persists, and is crucial in preventing disease outbreaks and ensuring the health and safety of vulnerable groups, especially women, children, and the elderly. Group Captain Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force, highlighted the importance of this initiative in supporting the affected communities.
