EDO STATE ELECTIONS: INEC Trains Supervisory Presiding Officers On Polling & Counting Procedures
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Nigeria has commenced training of Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs) on Polling and Counting Procedures in preparation for Edo Governorship elections.
The 2-day training which commenced Monday August,31 2020, is organized by the Electoral Institute.
The objective is that at the end of the training, participants should demonstrate the ability to organize and conduct training on Polling and Counting and effectively perform the electoral functions of SPO in line with the First Supplementary Guidelines and Regulations to the Elections and the INEC Policy on Conducting Elections in the Context of COVID -19 Pandemic.
The training was declared open by the Resident Commissioner of Edo State, Dr. Johnson Alalibe with Management Staff in attendance.
In his opening remarks the REC welcomed participants and advised them to be non-partisan in the discharge of their duties.
He also charged them to ask questions where necessary and to be active participants as the training is being conducted during a Pandemic and therefore important, so as to ensure safety of all participants and quality step down of the training for Presiding Officers (POs) and Assistant Presiding Officers (APOs).
The participants adhered to the PTF/NCDC guidelines by ensuring social distancing in sitting arrangements, wearing of face masks and use of Hand sanitizer.
The Training would highlight the Voters Code of Conduct for Elections during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the Mock practice of the Revised Accreditation Process which involves the use of the Smart Card Reader and the Tablet (Zpad) for accreditation of a Voter.
The Upload and Publishing of Polling Unit Results to a portal for public view would also be discussed.
