EBRD/FAO VISITS NACCIMA

The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), National Secretariat in Lagos received in audience a joint representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), on Friday, 5th December 2025.
The core focus of the meeting was to explore areas of collaboration between EBRD, FAO, and NACCIMA with the objective of supporting the Nigerian private sector, particularly the agribusiness sector.
During the discussion, several key challenges affecting the agribusiness sector in Nigeria were highlighted, including:
Post-Harvest Losses: Estimated at 40–50% due to inadequate storage facilities.
Logistics and Packaging Constraints: Identified as a major bottleneck affecting product quality and market access.
Energy Deficits: Limited access to reliable power needed for processing and preservation.
Regulatory Gaps: The absence of a coordinated regulatory body to certify products and implement a centralized quality assurance framework covering storage, packaging, and certification.
The meeting emphasized the need to prioritise export-ready commodities such as cassava, oil palm, cocoa, cotton, cashew, and tomatoes.
On the way forward it was agreed that, NACCIMA will share information on member businesses in agribusiness, including their areas of operation and existing contracts, to serve as an entry point for engagement.
On the hand, EBRD will provide technical assistance, including deal structuring support to address supply chain challenges, and sector-wide technical assistance such as training on supply chain management and compliance.
