Ebonyi State INEC Warns Against Double Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria has warned eligible voters who have formerly registered for their Permanent Voters Card PVC not to register again in this third quarter of Continuous Voters Registration CVR in the State to avoid punishment associated with it.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner REC in the State, Dr Chukwuemeka Chukwu made this appeal during the Press Conference held at INEC State Headquarters in Abakaliki, the State Capital.

Chukwu said the essence of the Conference is to update Journalists in the State, about the activities of the Commission so far, which include on-going CVR, the status of uncollected permanent voters card PVCs and the release of time table and schedule of activities for 2023 General Election.

“The CVR exercise is currently on its 3rd quarter, having successfully completed the 1st quarter, which commenced on June 28, 2021 and ended on September 30, 2021, and the second quarter which started on October 4, 2021 and ended on December 30, 2021. The current quarter started on January 4, 2022 and will last till March 22, 2022. Therefore, display of preliminary list of Voters for claims and objections for the 3rd Quarter registration will start from March 26, 2022 and end on April 1, 2022”, Chukwuemeka informed.

The REC further informed that the registration figure for Ebonyi State as at March 15, 2022 is 189,645.

Newly created Polling Units
Chukwu said “1,161 Polling Units PUs had earlier been created from the highly populated PUs in Ebonyi State, so as to decongest such PUs and to bring voting centers closer to the people”.

He added that the State has a total of 2,946 PUs comprising 1,785 old PUs and 1,161 new PUs.

Uncollected PVCs
The REC informed that the State has a total of 127, 424 Permanent Voters Card that are yet to be collected by the owners as at 15th March, 2022.

“I want to advise those who are yet to collect their Permanent Voters Cards to go to INEC Local Government Offices where they registered to collect it. However, there shall be no collection by proxy”, he added.

He said the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu had earlier released the time table and schedule of activities for 2023 General Election.

He urged Journalists to adequately publicise the Time table and the schedule of activities, as well as other timelines established by the Commission.
