EASTER PATROL: Katsina FRSC poise to reduce road crashes

AS being conscious and committed to its statutory responsibilities to always take festive periods with all seriousness of saving lives and property of people plying the Nigeria highways, the Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC Katsina command has kicked start the year 2021 special Easter patrol.
The command in line with the National Headquarters directives mapped out areas of high traffic density that need urgent attention during Easter period of which it has Zaria -Funtua-Gusau-Sokoto route as a corridor of high traffic volume during the period.
According to the Sector Commandant of Katsina State FRSC command, CC Ali Sule Tanimu, the route is therefore a priority one to be monitored extensively.
In a press briefing, CC Ali noted that “To achieve this task, adequate measures have been taken to actualize this mandate. These measures are but not limited to the following; deploying all staff including all special marshals throughout the duration of the exercise from Wed 31st March to 7th, April 2021.
“Ensure deployment of all staff to critical locations to calm traffic, ensure lane discipline and reduce dangerous overtaking and over speeding. Ensure aggressive public enlightenment in churches and Mosques, parks and loading points. Ensure full enforcement of all Road Traffic offences especially those that are most likely to cause crashes like overloading., Speed, dangerous overtaking etc”.
CC Ali Sule Tanimu noted that it will also synergize with other security agencies to ensure the success of the exercise as ambulance would be stationed in case of any emergencies as well as road side clinic in Koza and Malumfashi.
He said communication will be a top priority as all command’s official lines will be operational and open to the public also members of the public can reach the national headquarters when in distress through their toll-free number 122 or the national emergency line 114.
Katsina State Sector Commandant, CC Ali Sule said that is why the command is sustaining its clamp down on rickety vehicles, overloading and use of speed limiters by fleet operators, saying they are going to leave no stone unturned to ensure the success of the exercise
“Accordingly, anyone who is a regular traffic violator should have a change of heart as enforcement will be total”.
He called on all road users particularly those in Katsina State to cooperate for a crash free journey during the
Easter celebration and beyond.

He noted that a danger foreseen is an accident prevented noting that constant vigilance is the price of safety and do not trust to luck, trust to safety as the best safety device is a careful driver.
