Dumfries immaculate in Netherlands win over USA while Messi stars in Argentina win

The round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar started today with the Netherlands defeating the United States of America 3-1 to book a place in the quarter-finals
Right back Denzel Dumfries produced a man of the match display by giving two assists and scoring himself in the game.
The Dutch side took the lead when Memphis Depay crowned a magnificent 21-pass move by turning in Denzel Dumfries’ cross.
Daley Blind scored the second goal in the second half when he arrived with perfect timing on the end of another Dumfries cut back.
The Americans halved the deficit in the 76th minute as Haji Wright’s deflected shot found the back of the net from Pulisic’s cross.
But the Oranje restored their two-goal lead five minutes later when creator Dumfries turned scorer, side-footing in a volley at the far post from Blind’s cross.
In the second round of 16 game, Argentina battled to a 2-1 win over Australia.
Once again, Lionel Messi was in the thick of the action as he produced yet another stellar performance in the game that was his 1,000th career game.
The Argentines took the lead when Messi completed a well worked chance by guiding the ball to the back of the net in the 35th minute making it his 9th World Cup goals in his career
The South American side got the second from Manchester City forward, Julian Alvarez who benefited from a goalkeeping error by Australian, Matt Ryan.
However, there was a nervy end to the game when the goals was halved by Craig Goodwin’s strike which took a huge deflection off Enzo Fernandez.
The Netherlands will be facing Argentina in the quarter finals.
