Dignitaries, Community Leaders Honour Late Chief Onwumere at Abba Burial Ceremony

ABBA, NWANGELE – April 8, 2026 – A large gathering of dignitaries, relatives, and associates converged on Abba in Nwangele Local Government Area to honour the late Chief Lawrence Uzoatuegwu Onwumere, fondly known as Chikwadoeze I of Abba, as he was laid to rest by his family.

The funeral, organised by Sir (Dr.) Chidi Onwumere and his siblings, combined solemn reflection with celebration of a fulfilled life, attracting an impressive turnout from within and outside Imo State.

Top political figures present included the Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Amarachi Iwuanyanwu; former federal lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo; and the Majority Leader of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chief Kanayo Onyemaechi.

The ceremony also witnessed the presence of key traditional and community leaders such as the President General of Abba, Hon. Ikenna Anochie, alongside the traditional ruler, HRH Ndubueze Mmaduabuchukwu, Eze Omenma I of Abba.

Friends, in-laws, and well-wishers turned out in large numbers to support the Onwumere family, paying glowing tributes to the late elder statesman and acknowledging his enduring impact on the community.

The event was widely regarded as a befitting and well-coordinated farewell in honour of a respected patriarch.
