DICON @ 60: A New Era for Defence Innovation as H. E Matawalle hails New Act.

In a landmark ceremony at the MOD Conference Hall in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence marked the beginning of a new chapter in Nigeria’s defence history at the press briefing ahead of the the 60th anniversary of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON). This promises to be a milestone celebrated alongside the launch of the inaugural Africa Defence Industries Conference (ADIC).
With a theme of “DICON @ 60: Future Frontiers in Africa’s Defence Technology,” the events, scheduled for August 14-15, 2024, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, promise to usher in a new era of defence innovation and cooperation. The Minister emphasized the significance of strategic partnerships, innovation, and technological advancements in advancing defence capabilities.
The newly enacted DICON Act 2023 is poised to play a pivotal role in Nigeria’s national development and security. By boosting foreign exchange earnings, promoting local content development, and enhancing national security, the Act is set to transform DICON into a driving force behind Nigeria’s defence industrial complex.
As the nation looks to the future, DICON’s 60th anniversary serves as a testament to its enduring legacy and a springboard for its future aspirations. With the ADIC conference, Nigeria is poised to take its rightful place as a leader in Africa’s defence technology landscape.
