DG NSCC VISITS DAME TALLEN. Federal Ministry of Women Affairs To Set Up Ageing Desks Across 36 States in Nigeria

In order to sustain the build up of partnerships with Government Agencies, the director General, National Senior Citizens Centre Dr Emem Omokaro took her advocacy and courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs on 16th February, 2022.

In her address, Dr Omokaro who applauded the exampary impact of uplifting the status of women by Dame Pauline Tallen said, ” Our focus on this meeting is on older women. Nigeria’s older women are resilient, industrious and caring for multi- generations yet they are traumatized by tagging witches.

“The DG seek partnership with the ministry inorder to be able to reach older women across every state.”

She further requested that Ageing Desk should be provided to help tackle witchcraft accusations, stigmatization and mob violence against older women.

Responding,the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs Dame Pauline Tallen OFR KSG, appraised the DG and embraced partnership as their mandate align with that of the ministry.

The Minister decried the atrocious acts carried upon older women ranging from raping and tagging them to be witchcrafts.

Tallen assured the centre that the ministry will establish Ageing Desk across the Federation including FCT.

She also stated that the Director General National Senior Citizens Centre will have to be present during the Ministry’s council meeting to critically address issues of ageing women
