The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the close of the first phase of the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and the commencement of the next statutory phase of the process.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs Victoria Eta Messi, said the first quarter of the CVR, which began with online pre-registration on 18th August 2025 and in-person registration on 25th August 2025, will formally end on 10th December 2025.

She explained that in accordance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022, the Display of the Register of Voters for Claims and Objections will be held from 15th to 21st December 2025 at Local Government Offices where the CVR exercise was conducted. The Commission urged eligible citizens, particularly those who newly registered, transferred their voting locations, or updated their details, to take advantage of the opportunity to verify their information, report errors, and draw attention to ineligible or deceased persons.

Providing its week 13 update, the Director reported a total of 9,891,801 online pre-registrations since the exercise began. Out of this number, 2,572,054 registrations have been fully completed nationwide, comprising 1,503,832 online completions and 1,068,222 physical registrations as of 28th November 2025.

Mrs. Eta-Messi also reminded the public that registration activities in Anambra State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remain suspended due to ongoing electoral activities. New dates for the resumption of the CVR in both locations will be communicated in due course.

She added that the second phase of the nationwide CVR will resume on 5th January 2026, in line with the timelines earlier released.

Mrs. Eta-Messi reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to maintaining a credible, transparent, and inclusive Register of Voters and called for continued public cooperation as the nation works to strengthen its democratic processes.
