Customs Responds To Alleged Coup Reports
The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has responded to reports that an officer of the service self promoted himself to the rank of Comptroller General of Customs, CGC.
According to the Service, the officer, Assistant Superintendent, ASC1, Nura Dalhatu wore a ‘wrong uniform’ of a Deputy Comptroller General of Customs, and despite reports of him declaring himself CGC the alleged officer did not utter a word.
The Public Relations Unit of the service went further to explain that the officer on notice was immediately taken to the medical unit of the service for medical examination as, ‘from questions asked it was obvious he was not in the right frame of mind’.
Speaking further on the incident, the service condemned reports from the media who gave the impression that the incident was a ploy by the president to take control of the service, adding that naming the home town of the officer was uncalled for as it was a ploy to politicize the whole incident which was not a ‘big deal’.
Earlier on Monday, reports of a failed coup went viral on the internet with many claiming it to be part of a ‘failed coup’.
As at the time of filling this report, the officer was still being examined .
