Creative Industry Spotlight: Zaaki Azzay Visits NACCIMA Abuja

Veteran Nigerian musician and CEO of True Nigerians, Mr. Zaaki Azzay, visited the NACCIMA Corporate Office in Abuja today for a strategic meeting focused on integrating and advancing the creative industry within the Nigerian business ecosystem.
Mr. Azzay was received by NACCIMA officials, including Dr. Emmanuel Akeh (Director, NACCIMA), Alhaji Mohammed Sai’Lere, Mr. Suleiman Ibrahim, and Mr. Mohammed Mahmud.
Dr. Emmanuel Akeh provided an overview of NACCIMA’s mandate, highlighting its vision, core objectives, and pivotal role within the Nigerian business ecosystem. He clarified NACCIMA’s function as an association, explaining its participation in organizing and supporting trade fairs for its members.
Mr. Suleiman Ibrahim reinforced this by detailing NACCIMA’s internal structure and regulatory responsibilities. He emphasized that NACCIMA:
– Establishes rules for properly organized trade fairs.
– Ensures policy compliance and maintains trade groups to address sector-specific issues.
– Acts as a unifying voice for its member organizations.
– Highlighted copywriting (referring to copyright) as a key challenge, stressing the need to focus more on the creative industry and technology.
Alhaji Mohammed Sai’Lere further explained that the rising relevance of the creative industry was the main reason stakeholders were being invited for engagement. He revealed a significant step:
– NACCIMA has established a Committee for the Creative Industry.
– The Vice President of PMAN (Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria) is involved.
– He stressed the necessity of having an “insider” from the industry to make the committee more effective, hoping to leverage such individuals to create awareness and promote stability within the entertainment space.
Mr. Zaaki Azzay acknowledged the entertainment industry’s significant contribution to Nigeria’s economic growth, noting the vast employment chain embedded in the sector.
He expressed his readiness to collaborate fully with NACCIMA and the new committee, stating his willingness to:
-Meet the Chairman of the Creative Industry Committee.
-Bring on board a group of young and older music professionals.
-Work with PMAN and the NACCIMA committee to improve the creative industry structure and output.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, signaling a strong commitment from both NACCIMA and leading industry figures like Mr. Azzay to formalize and boost the creative sector’s economic impact.
