COVID- 19: FGN Releases Names of Nigerians Who Died Abroad

The Federal Government has released a list of Nigerians who died of coronavirus abroad since the inception of outbreak of the disease.

The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, made this known on Thursday in a video containing the names, pictures and countries of residence of the departed Nigerians through her Twitter handle.

According to her, thirteen (13) Nigerians abroad have, so far, died of the coronavirus pandemic.

A breakdown of the list shows that eight whose names are, Dr Alfa Sa’adu, Carol Jamabo, Dr Kole Abayomi, Bode Ajanlekoko, Adeola Onasanya, Ugochukwu Erondu, Chidinma Olajide and Mmaete Greg, died in the United Kingdom while five; Bassey Offiong, Caleb Anya, Akeem Adagun, Laila Abubakar and Patricia Imobhio died in United States of America.

Hon Dabiri-Erewa prayed that the souls of the departed ones rest in peace.

“May the souls of our brothers and sisters in Diaspora, who lost their lives to COVID-19, rest in peace. May the Lord heal the world,” she stated.

More than 85,000 coronavirus deaths have been recorded around the world from about 1.5 million confirmed cases, according to the World Health Organisation situation dashboard as of the time of filing this report.

In the UK over 60,000 confirmed cases has been recorded with about 7,000 people who have died of the pandemic.

The US has also recorded up to 400,000 confirmed cases with over 12,000 deaths.

As at the time of filing this report, Nigeria’s has less than 300 COVID-19 cases and about 10 deaths.
