COURT IN ABUJA SACKS CRS LAWMAKERS…. No cause for alarm says APC

Cross River State political space in Nigeria was thrown into shock as a Federal High Court in Abuja the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Monday, declared the seats of 20 lawmakers vacant over their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to All Progressives Congress (APC).
The judgement was given by Justice Taiwo Taiwo who dismissed the defence argument that the PDP (plaintiff), had no locus standi (legal rights), to institute the case.
Justice Taiwo ruled that the argument of the lawmakers, that there was rancour in the PDP which necessitated their defection to APC was a ploy to mislead the court.
The judge, who granted all the reliefs sought by the PDP, held that it was disheartening that politicians in the country treat citizens as if they do not matter once they get into office.
In a quick reaction to the judgement, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress in Cross River State, Mr. Erasmus Ekpang said ‘we trust that the appellate Court will do justice as we file our appeal and APC members should stay calm and not be distracted’.
He also called for calm because there was plenty of time to appeal as they have ninety days to do so which they will.
