As the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) joins over 300 delegates from across the world who have converged in Dubai for the 28th edition of the United Nations Conference of Parties (COP28), the Director General/ CEO NiMet and Permanent Representative of Nigeria with the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), Professor Mansur Bako Matazu delivered a presentation on the efforts NiMet is making at tracking and establishing the evidence of climate change in the country as well as the Agency’s products and services aimed at achieving early warning for all as enunciated by the United Nations last year.

The event which holds from 30th November to 12th December, 2023, brings together scientists, corporate organisations, government establishments, world leaders, activists, and policy makers with the sole objective to discuss climate change, the impact and efforts made to address it.

This year’s COP 28 is particularly significant as it has a primary objective which is the Global Stocktake (GST). This involves assessing the various processes designed to evaluate global progress made towards achieving the climate goals established by the Paris Agreement of 2015 that concludes at this year’s COP 28.

Part of the activities is the presentation by various delegates.

This global event draws attention to the importance of collective action to stop the devastating effect of climate change as well as the critical role of climate finance in the low- carbon transition. It also provides opportunity for networking and engagement with critical stakeholders.
